Robert Edwards, age 70, passed away on August 12, 2010 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. Born on June 13, 1940 to Thomas and Grace Edwards, Robert was a 1958 grad of Clay High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was a Radar Specialist with the 782nd A.C.W.R.O.N. of Rockville, IN. In 1962, after an honorable discharge, he returned to Toledo to go to work for the Jeep Corp. With the luxury of being part time at Jeep, he had summers free to sail the freighters of our Great Lakes. In 1966, Robert was called to work with family at the Toledo Lakefront Docks aside his father, Thomas, and older brother, Tommy. Robert was a very hard and dependable worker, missing only five days his entire caree as a longshoreman, which lasted nearly 20 years. Robert also owned and operated the Whistle Stop Lounge on Bayshore Road. Due to cutbacks at Toledo Lakefront Docks, Robert also worked part time with the C & O Railroad until 1985 when he went back to Jeep full time until his retirement in 1991. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, which included a cross country trip with his son, along with many other small trips. He also had a special friend and travel companion, Patti Kennedy. Along with following Tiger baseball with a passion, he enjoyed long walks at Maumee Bay State Park and all over the City of Toledo for that matter. Dad, your simple wisdom, "Treat others as you would want to be treated", to your life's stories, quick wit and special humour will always carry me. Thanks for being a tough but fair father, Your Son.
He is survived by his son, Tony (Carol Malloy) Edwards; grandson, Robert Edwards; granddaughter, Taylor Edwards; brothers, Thomas (Dee) Edwards and Martin (Carolyn) Edwards; nieces, Lori (Daryl) Vasko and Karry Edwards; nephews, Joel Edwards and Chris (Barb) Edwards; and special friend, Patti Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Eddie Malloy; and Sharon Edwards.
Services will be private for the family only.
