Linda G. Sterns, 62, of Lambertville, Michigan, died at home surrounded by her family February 26, 2010, following a battle with cancer. Linda was born May 25, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio to James and Margaret (Smith) Graber. She attended St. Clement School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1965. Linda married Timothy Sterns in 1980. She graduated from Western Michigan University in 1973 with a bachelor degree in English and earned her Masters in Early Childhood Education from the University of Toledo in 1995. Linda taught third grade at Ladyfield School from 1989 to 2000, and was an instructor at Monroe Community College and Owens Community College from 2001 to 2007. She volunteered her time helping adults learning to read as part of Toledo's Read For Literacy Program. She was a mentor and hostess for foreign exchange students, welcoming them warmly into her home and family. Linda enjoyed ten years of volunteer service, by her husband's side, with his work at Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. She was recognized in 2007 as their Volunteer of the Year. Linda is survived by her husband, Timothy; son, Brian (Allison); daughter, Kathleen; mother, Margaret Graber; sister, Peg Graber, and five grandchildren, Ellen, Molly, Kathryn, Jacob, and William. She was preceded in death by her father, James, and sister, Mary (Graber) Coppens. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Monclova Road Baptist Church, 7819 Monclova Road, Monclova, Ohio 43542. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to either Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, or Monclova Road Baptist Church in her name.
