Biography
Maxine Carlson Haworth passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in Toledo, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morton Howe Haworth in 1986, and siblings Norman Carlson, Harold Carlson, Marjorie Carlson and Frank Carlson. Maxine was born in Keokuk Iowa on July 6, 1919 to Frank Emil and Sara Flick Carlson. Maxine leaves daughters Jacquelyn Haworth Hoy ( Raymond), Linda Haworth Anderson (Geoffrey) and grandchildren Nathan (Leeanne) Foster, Margaret Foster, Rebecca (Colby) Beck, Christopher Anderson, Eric Hoy and Valerie Hoy as well as eight great grandchildren: BreAnn, Lukas, Dawson and Ethan Anderson, Audrey and Cooper Beck, and Abigail and Jackson Foster, and great godsons Shane and Zac Goble. To her family Maxine was always known as Nana.
Maxine also leaves a multitude of family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was known for her incredible talent as a seamstress, a talent that she used throughout her life to design as easily formal gowns for her daughters, a suit for her husband, or adorable outfits for grandchildren.
Before her marriage in 1947, Maxine worked at Central State Bank in Keokuk Iowa. She moved with her husband, Mort to Indianapolis after her marriage where she was involved in many activities at Roosevelt Temple Methodist Church and Salem United Methodist Church. She was always the room mother for school classes and the seamstress for costumes for school and church plays and programs. She was never happier than sitting at her sewing machine working her magic.
In 1964 the family moved to Toledo, Ohio. Maxine always found a church home and in Toledo it was Monroe Street United Methodist Church where she continued her tradition of involvement. For 25 years, Maxine was Media Director at The Company Carr, an advertising agency in Toledo. She retired in 1985.She had recently moved back to Toledo from Columbus, Ohio where she had lived for the past 10 years with her daughter, Jacquelyn. Wherever Maxine lived she surrounded herself with a close group of friends who remained close throughout her life. There will never be another Maxine.
Maxine has been cremated and will be laid to rest at Ebenezer Church Cemetery, an historic church in Jennings County Indiana beside her husband, Morton. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at Ebenezer in the spring when butterflies can join in.
