Biography

Frank Yarcso, 90, born in Toledo on February 1, 1920, died Monday, February 15, 2010. He served proudly in the Navy during WWII aboard LST 835 in the South Pacific and was among the first U.S. servicemen to enter Nagasaki after the atom bomb blast. He was known aboard the ship as "Frankie, the accordion player". Following the war, he became a carpenter. Frank was a carpenter by day and a musician at night and was known throughout the Toledo area for his accordion music. He entertained many people in 50-plus years at private parties and area clubs. On January 8, 1944, he married Helen Mae McVicker, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him were his parents, Ferenz Yarcso and Mary (Bali) Yarcso, his infant son, Thomas, granddaughter, Melinda Camero, and his sister, Mary Yeagley. Frank is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Robert Mead, daughter, Christine Stanley, sons, Lawrence and Joseph, sisters, Elizabeth Cabanski, Irene (William) Chapman, Margaret (George), 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Frank was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna church, Ohio Carpenter's Local 1138, American Legion Conn-Weissenberger Post 587, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 606, Voiture 141-40 & 8, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 197. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 23rd, at Blanchard - Strabler Funeral Home (1163 W. Sylvania at Lockwood, 419-269-1111) from 2 pm until 4 pm and 6 pm until 8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 24th, at St. Catherine of Sienna Church at 10:30 am, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St. Catherine of Sienna church or a charity of your choice.
