Life Legacy
Herman Martin, Jr., age 79 of Toledo, passed away on Saturday February 13, 2010 at Mercy-St. Vincent Medical Center. He was born to the union of Herman Sr. and Elma (Johnson) Martin in Decatur, AL on November 26, 1930. Herman was a faithful member of Parkwood Seventh Day Adventist Temple and was ordained as a Deacon in 1996. He attended Rossford High School and graduated in 1948. He joined the U.S. Air Force, serving 21 years and received an honorable discharge as a Master Sergeant. He retired December 1, 1969. He then worked as a postal carrier for the Toledo Post Office and retired after 20 years of service in 1991. His hobbies included photography for which he received many awards and he loved fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son; 5 sisters and 2 brothers. He leaves to cherish his memory, 5 stepchildren; sisters, Sandra Martin, Lucille Samuels of Rossford, Wanda Moore, Odessa Reddick of Toledo; brothers, James (Juanita) Martin, David (Susie) Martin of Toledo, Donald (Anita) Martin of Southfield, MI and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing Thursday 4-6 PM at Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home (1163 W. Sylvania at Lockwood, 419-269-1111) Services will be conducted on Friday at 11 AM, preceded by the Wake at 10 Am at Parkwood Seventh Day Adventist Temple (2200 Parkwood), Elder George Cross, officiant. Interment with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Air Force will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
