Life Legacy

Mary Ann Tressler was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, and friend to many. She died Saturday, January 30, 2010, after a short struggle with cancer. She was 72. Mary Ann was a lifelong Toledoan until moving just across the line in Temperance in the last decade. She died at home with her husband, John S. Tressler, and family beside her. "We have lost our best friend, mother, wife and the one person we all knew we could count on to be there for any of us," said Cathy Harrison, her daughter. "She brightened many people's days, without them knowing that she had any part in it," said her son, Jeff Wietrzykowski. "She had a true understanding of life and what really matters in it." "Mom was a great cook and a favorite gathering spot was always her kitchen," said Mark Wietrzykowski. Mary Ann was born May 23, 1937, the oldest of four daughters of Casmier and Josephine (Kotowicz) Szynfelt. For the last 30 years, standing by her side has been John, who she married in 1992. She retired in 1995 after 28 years as cashier/bookkeeper at the Suder-Benore Food Town, where she was a "favorite cashier" of many who shopped at the super market. Mary Ann and John were longtime members of Jolly Roger Sailing Club. They spent many good times sailing until they could see the sunset on the western shore of Lake Erie from the deck of their sailboat, the "Tia Maria." They also enjoyed many Florida trips with friends and family members. "Mary was a wonderful sister-in-law and thoughtful aunt to our children. We had many good times with John and her, some fine and happy moments and dinners together. We have great memories of Christmas times when she and John were Santa Claus for our kids. We will miss her smile and her thoughtfulness," said Mike and JoAnne Tressler. She was good company to many friends, especially Pat Boes and her husband, Paul, who was best man at Mary Ann and John's wedding. She also looked forward to monthly luncheons with old neighbors, Don and Rusty, Bob and Cathy, and Dallas and Olga. Three sisters, Virginia, Nancy, and Joan, helped keep her spirits up during her illness. She is survived by her husband, John S. Tressler; sons, Jeffery (Nancy) Wietrzykowski and Mark (Kim) Wietrzykowski; daughter, Cathy Harrison; step sons, Rob (Patti) Tressler, Marc (Karen) Tressler; grandchildren, Sara and Sean Wietrzykowski, Derek (Samantha) Harrison, and Kyle Curran; step grandchildren, Ethan and Ryan Tressler, and great-grandchildren, Gavin and Kaylee Wietrzykowski. She is survived by sisters, Virginia Wright, Nancy (Melvin) Jakubowski, and Joan (Tim) Berkel, and brothers-in-law, Michael (Josephine) Tressler, Daniel (Terrie) Tressler, and Jeffrey Tressler, and also by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and special friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the loving care and expert treatment given by Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The dedication to her comfort could not have been better. For those who would like to make a contribution to Hospice of Northwest Ohio it would be greatly appreciated by anyone who has had the necessity to engage its services for the care of a loved on. Mary Ann requested that her family invite those who knew her to a celebration of her life. It will be held Sunday, February 21, 1-5 p.m. at the Jolly Roger Sailing Club, 5961 Edgewater Dr., Toledo.
